Tommies top Oles in women's hoops

The St. Olaf Women?s Basketball team lost to The University of St. Thomas 76-53 at home Saturday, January 18. St. Thomas?s full court pressure and ability to score from the free throw line in the second half propelled the Toms to the win. Liz Mundahl (Sr. Eagan, Minn.) led the way for St. Olaf, scoring 15 points. Sara Erickson, shooting 50% from the three-point line, added 13. The Oles shot 44.1 percent from the field as a team.

Kristy Huegel, scored 17 points for St. Thomas, going eight for 12 from the line. Mayme Cupkie (Sr. Owatonna, Minn.) secured 13 of St. Olaf?s 38 rebound total. Molly Simon contributed six assists.

The game was tied early in the second half, 30-30, but St. Olaf committed 15 turnovers in the final frame as a result of the St. Thomas press.

The Oles were just seven-of-13 from the free throw line, while the Tommies scored on 25-of-34 attempts.

St. Olaf next travels to St. Paul to play theHamline University on Monday, January 20 at 7:30. Wednesday, they travel to Moorhead to face the Concordia College Cobbers at 5:30 in another MIAC contest. The Men?s game follows.
