Ole women cruise, beat Pipers 72-58

The St. Olaf women's basketball team cruised to a 72-58 victory against Hamline University on Monday, January 20 in St. Paul.

St. Olaf put together two solid halves, shooting 45 percent from the field. The Piper were 39 percent from the field.

It was a big night for Ole shooting guards. Christine Schwichtenberg (FY, Hopkins, Minn.) came off the bench to score a career-high 18 points, while Sara Erickson (Sr. Cambridge, Minn.) 6-of-12 from the field to score 14. Liz Mundahl (Sr. Eagan, Minn.) added 13 point.

Forward Nina Boyd scored 22 points for the Pipers.

St. Olaf was able to handle the Hamline full court pressure in the first half and led 34-22 at the break. They kept control of the game in the second half, going 11-for-12 from the line. The Pipers shot 72.7 percent from the charity stripe.

The Oles out-rebounded Hamline 39-33. Jill Johnson (Jr. Butterfield, Minn.) had nine rebounds, and Mundahl and Kelly Sweeney (Jr. Oakdale, Minn.) each had five. Molly Simon had six assists.

St. Olaf next travels to Moorhead to play Concordia College in a double-header with the men?s team on Wednesday, January 22. They then play the University of Saint Mary?s at home on Saturday, January 25 at 3:00 PM.
