On Sunday, January 12, the Oles faced the St. Thomas Tommies for game two in the weekend series. This game proved to be a huge physical battle by both teams. Although the Oles led most of the game, they were out-scored at the end of the game and lost 3-2.

The first period was played well by both teams, and despite power play opportunities for both teams, the first period ended scoreless.

Early in the second period, at 0:26, the Oles scored the first goal of the game. Jennifer Welch (Fr, Bloomington, Minn.) scored for the Oles with the assist from Erin Baxter (So, Rosemount, Minn.). The Oles brought their lead to 2-0 at 9:46 in the second period with a goal by Lindsay Weier (Fr, Menomonie, Wis.). The assist was awarded to Britny Schultheis (So, Shoreview, Minn.). The Oles also had a huge defensive second period. Ole goaltender, Andrea Smith (So, Burnsville, Minn.) stopped all 17 of the Tommies? shots to keep the Oles? lead going into the third period.

The third period turned out to be an unfortunate defensive battle for the Oles. At 7:24 in the third, the Tommies scored their first goal of the game. The Tommies scored again to tie the game at 15:38 on a power play opportunity. The Oles fought hard to get another goal, but they were only able to get off 6 shots on goal for the third period. Fighting hard to hold on to the tie, the Oles faced a total of 15 shots on goal in the third. Unfortunately, at 19:27, the Tommies scored the game-winning goal to bring the final score to 3-2, St. Thomas.

Despite the disappointing loss, Smith had a great game with a total of 43 saves. The Oles will next face the Augsburg Auggies on Thursday, January 16 at 8pm at the Northfield Ice Arena.
