On Thursday, January 16, the Oles hosted the Augsburg Auggies. This was an intense match-up, with the lead changing many times. The Oles tied the game late in the third period, sending the game into overtime. One score during overtime gave the Oles a 4-3 victory in front of the home crowd.

Early in the first period, at 4:40, Augsburg scored to take an early lead. However, the Oles answered back at 13:29 with a goal from Kate Barnett (So, Burnsville, Minn.) The assist was from Kayla Wente (So, Waterloo, Iowa). Less than a minute later, at 14:19, the Auggies took the lead again, but the Oles quickly answered back to tie the game again at 15:05. Lindsay Weier (Fr, Menomonie, Wis.) scored for the Oles with the assists from Barnett and Wente.

The second period was a defensive period for the Oles, in that they had four penalties. However, they were successful in killing all four. Defensive efforts from both teams kept the second period scoreless and the game went into the third period tied at 2-2.

Early in the third period, the Auggies scored to take the lead at 4:25. However, the Oles did not let up and put forth tremendous efforts in both the offensive and defensive zones. At 15:16, Sarah Ray (Jr, St. Paul, Minn.) scored the tying goal for the Oles. Ray scored on a power play with the assist from Barnett. This goal sent the game into overtime, where the Oles clinched the win with a breakaway goal by Erin Baxter (So, Rosemount, Minn.). The goal, at 2:31 in OT, was assisted by Weier giving the Oles a 4-3 victory.

Ole goaltender, Kerry Rollwagen (So, Mendota Heights, Minn.) had a total of 25 saves and the Oles had a total of 27 shots on goal for the game. Both Ray and Baxter had excellent games. The Oles will play game two of the weekend series against Augsburg on Saturday, January 18, at 2pm at Augsburg.
