St. Olaf Opera Workshop to present Ruddigore by Gilbert and Sullivan

Amy Gage
January 27, 2003

Experience the excitement of Gilbert and Sullivan's Ruddigore of the Witch's Curse on Monday, Jan. 27, and Wednesday, Jan. 29, in Studio 1 of the Dittmann Center. Performed by 26 St. Olaf students -- part of the St. Olaf Opera Workshop -- the program will begin at 7 p.m. The performances are free and open to the public.

Originally performed in 1887, Ruddigore is a timeless parody of domestic melodrama and was the eighth full-length opera penned by Gilbert and Sullivan. The opera is directed by James McKeel, an associate professor of music at St. Olaf, with musical accompaniment by Krista Apland (a first-year student from Oregon) and Tom Franek (a first-year student from Northfield), with lighting design by Josh Wyatt (a sophomore from Arkansas).
