Women's hockey takes touch loss on the road

On Saturday, January 25, the Oles traveled to St. Peter to take on the Gustavus Adolphus College Gusties. This game was a tough defensive game for the Oles. The Gusties were first to score at 13:07 in the first period. They increased their lead to 2-0 at 14:53 in the first during a four-on-four play. The Oles did however put offensive pressure on the Gusties with a total of 8 shots on goal for the period.

The second period started with a quick goal for the Gusties at 0:34. Down by three, the Oles did not let up. They had a total of 7 shots on goal in the second period. And Ole goaltender, Andrea Smith (So, Burnsville, Minn.) had a total of 14 saves for the second period.

At 5:36 in the third period, the Oles got on the scoreboard with a power play goal by Erin Baxter (So, Rosemount, Minn.). The assists were awarded to Lindsay Weier (Fr, Menomonie, Wis.) and Sarah Ray (Jr, St. Paul, Minn.). The Oles defense really stepped it up in the third period, keeping the Gusties shots on goal to 7. The Oles out-shot the Gusties in the third period with a total of 9 shots on goal. However, at 18:01, the Gusties scored again, bringing the final score to 4-1.

The Oles had a total of 25 shots on goal. Smith had a total of 27 saves for the Oles.

The Oles will next face the Pipers from Hamline University at the Coliseum on Friday, January 31, at 7:05pm.
