The College Relations Division at St. Olaf College is hosting a ?back to school? Community Picnic for Northfield-area residents on Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the campus? Buntrock Plaza. The College Relations Division includes the St. Olaf Center for Lifelong Learning; Classical 89.3; and the offices of Church Relations, Marketing-Communications and Music Organizations.

The event is free. Community residents who plan to attend are asked to leave a message at 646-8080 or email picnic@stolaf.edu. Any questions about the event should be directed to picnic organizer David Gonnerman at 646-3315 or gonnermd@stolaf.edu.

The St. Olaf Community Picnic will feature food by Bon Appétit, the toe-tapping music of local Spring Fever Bluegrass Band, face painting for kids, a football mini-clinic hosted by St. Olaf football players, campus tours and a drawing for prizes.

?St. Olaf College has so much to offer the community year-round, from student and professional performances to the Tostrud Center for athletics and thought-provoking conferences,? says Jan McDaniel, vice president of the College Relations Division. ?The picnic is our way of welcoming the community to campus and familiarizing them with campus buildings and grounds so they?ll come back often.?

Buntrock Plaza, the center of this event, is at the top of the hill on the east side of the campus behind student center Buntrock Commons. As you approach campus, follow the signs to available parking and to the event.

In case of rain, the Community Picnic will move to Skoglund Fieldhouse in the athletic center on the west side of campus.
