A new art show, "Voice Your Vote," will open in the Student Gallery of Dittmann Center at St. Olaf College with a reception on Thursday, Oct. 21, 7-9 p.m. The opening will feature live music by several St. Olaf musicians. The show, which runs through Nov. 6, is free and open to the public.

A collection of fresh artwork from St. Olaf students and alumni, plus members of the Northfield community, "Voice Your Vote" features artists who are among the nation's 48 million 18- to 30-year-old voters.

"The show illustrates the wide range of feelings evoked by this intense political season," says exhibit curator Jane Becker, who graduated from St. Olaf last year. Wit, convictions, social concerns and raw emotion are expressed through a variety of different media. The new works exhibited reveal what is on the minds of the countryıs young voters in the final weeks before the Nov. 2 election.

"As a youth voter I have been both excited and disappointed by the efforts to 'get out the vote' this election year," says Becker. "Messages urging us to vote are everywhere and getting registered is a breeze. But amidst the money and media that drive many youth vote campaigns the opportunity for a thoughtful dialogue is often lost." Becker explains that "Voice Your Vote" encourages young voters to explore their beliefs by formulating unique political expressions. She hopes the show will stimulate an engaging discussion as the election draws near.

Visitor parking for Dittmann is available in the adjacent lot. The student gallery is open daily 8 a.m. to midnight.
