The St. Olaf College women?s basketball team controlled the Hamline University Pipers from the tip-off, winning 61-48. The Oles shot well in the second half, but it was their domination on the boards that enabled them to maintain a comfortable lead.

Second chance points resulting from offensive rebounds helped St. Olaf build a 23-6 lead midway through the first half. The Pipers managed to close the gap before facing an eleven point deficit at the intermission, 29-18. The second half brought more of the same as St. Olaf maintained a safe lead for most of the game. Hamline narrowed the margin to ten with 4:27 to play but was unable to come any closer, as the Oles held on down the stretch.

Elisa Hatlevig (Sr., Rushford, Minn.) led the balanced St. Olaf offensive attack with 13, adding a game-high 9 rebounds. Liz Mundahl (So., Eagan, Minn.) netted 10 points for the Oles and grabbed 6 rebounds. Hamline?s Stacey Thill led all scorers in the game with 16 followed by fellow Piper Jessica Barrett with 14.

The victory brings St. Olaf to 9-10 overall, 7-9 in MIAC play and keeps the Oles? hopes alive in the race for the six-team MIAC playoff. St. Olaf will look for an upset in St. Joseph on Wednesday night against the College of St. Benedict to further its playoff quest. Hamline falls to 4-12 in league play, 4-15 overall. The Pipers will play host to St. Mary?s University on Wednesday night. Both games start at 7:30.
