Women's Track Takes Second at Meeting of the Minds

This past Saturday the St. Olaf Women's Track and Field Team took second place in the Meeting of the Minds hosted by Carleton College. Carleton won the meet with 189 points, the Oles had 182 points and Emory College (Atlanta) finished third with 171 points. The Oles also competed in the "Knowledge Bowl" as a scoring component of the competition. Sophomore Megan Daymont (Northfield, Minn.) had an outstanding day winning the 600 meter dash and the 800 meter race with times of 1:39.26 and 2:20.98 respectively. These events were just 40 minutes apart; an indication of just how strong this young runner is. Daymont also was part of the victorious 4x400 meter relay (4:15.74). First-year Becky Peterson (Plymouth, Minn.) had a good day placing second in her debut 55 meter hurdle race (9.51), second in the 200 meter dash (27.79), fifth in the triple jump (9.25 meters) and ran a leg of the 4x400 meter relay. First- year Marit Grorud (Fremont, Neb.) placed second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 63.25 and anchored the 4x400 meter relay. Sophomore Leah Dvorak (Alma, Iowa) won the high jump with a jump of 5'0" in her first competition of the season. Oles placing second were first-year Abby Love (Appleton, Wis.) in the 600 meter dash, junior Sarah Beggs (Klamath Falls, Ore.) in the triple jump and first-year Jennifer Levenhagen (Appleton, Wis.) in the shot put. Oles finishing in third place were senior Katie Storlie (St. Louis Park, Minn.) in the 1000 meters, sophomore Traci Bartz (Bemidji, Minn.) in the 1500 meters, senior Anne Sateren (Minneapolis, Minn.) in the 3000 meters and Levenhagen in the triple jump. Finishing fourth were Storlie in the 1500 meters, junior Brigid Franey (Lexington, Ky.) in the 3000 meters and junior Amanda Jacobson (Iola, Wis.) in the weight throw. Placing fifth were sophomore Dawn Mielke (Arlington, Minn.) in the 400 meter dash, first year Britt Carlson (Stillwater, Minn.) in the 1000 meters, senior Suzanne DePaulo (St. Louis, Park) in the 5000 meters and first-year Lauren Topel (North Oaks) in the pole vault. In sixth place were senior Sara Daymont (Northfield, Minn.) in the 600 meter dash, sophomore Taryn Weakly (Milwaukee, Wis.) in the 800 meters, junior Tessa Pierson (Lake City, Minn.) in the 1000 meters and senior Megan Magnall (Waverly, Iowa) in the 5000 meters. The Oles compete this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the University of Minnesota Parents? Day Invitational.
