Renowned Norwegian musicians Kraggerud, Kjekshus to perform at St. Olaf

NORTHFIELD, Minn. ? Internationally renowned Norwegian musicians Henning Kraggerud, violin, and Helge Kjekshus, piano, will perform an Artist Series concert at St. Olaf College on Sunday, March 4.

The concert, at 8 p.m. in Urness Recital Hall, Christiansen Hall of Music, is free and open to the public.

The two will perform works by Edward Grieg, Leos Janacek and Johannes Brahms. They will perform Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 2 in G-Major, Op. 13, by Grieg; Sonata for Violin and Piano by Janacek; and Sonata for Violin and Piano No 1 in G-Major, Op. 78 by Brahms.

Kraggerud, from Oslo, Norway, is one of Europe?s most talked-about violinists with a burgeoning international career. Kjekshus is one of Norway?s leading pianists and the recipient of several national awards, including Norway?s prestigious Grieg Prize.

Kraggerud, as a recitalist and chamber musician, has performed in many world-renowned groups including the St. Petersburg Philharmonic and the Oslo Philharmonic, as well as with other world-renowned musicians, including Lief Ove Andsnes, Martha Argerich and Stephen Kovacevic.

Kjekshus has earned standing ovations for many of his concerts, and has performed with such ensembles as the Santa Fe Symphony, Bern Symphony, Copenhagen Philharmonic and other of major orchestras throughout Scandinavia and in the Baltic. He also has performed with conductors Paavo Berglund, Alexander Dimitriev and others.

St. Olaf College prepares students to become responsible citizens of the world, fostering development of mind, body and spirit.
