St. Olaf Womens Tennis Shuts out Cobbers

The St. Olaf women's tennis team traveled to Moorhead to play their first match of the season versus Concordia College on Saturday, February 17th.

The Oles started off strong winning all three of the doubles points. Sophomore Yvonne Yang (Appleton, Wis.) and Lindsay Gorham (Wenatchee, Wa.) won easily at #1 doubles 8-1, while seniors Rebekah van Wieren (Holland, Mi.) and Alyssa Derksen (Appleton, Wis.)won at #2 doubles 8- 2. #3 doubles of junior Abigail Betts (Bethesda, Mar.) and first-year Jaime Bran (Arlington, Minn) also won easily 8-1.

Having convincingly won the doubles points, the Oles rolled along smoothly into their singles matches. #1 singles Rebekah van Wieren won 6-1, 6-4, as did sophomore Jennifer Ison (Urbana, Ill.) winning 6-4, 6-4 at #2 singles. Sophomore Janelle Sagness (Mankato, Minn.) won 6-2, 6-4 at #3 singles, while Alyssa Derksen won easily 6-3, 6-0 at #4 singles. Junior Bethany Kochsiek (LaCrosse, Wis.) won at #5 singles 6-3, 6-1, while #6 singles Jaime Bran won convincingly 6-0, 6-0 to give the Oles a sweep over the Cobbers 9-0.
