Oles Top Johnnies in Tennis

Fresh off of their first win, and first match, the Oles took the court to play the St. John?s Johnnies in St. Cloud on February 23rd. The Oles looked to start the season off right by winning their first two conference matches.

The Oles started off by getting the doubles point in winning all three doubles matches. Senior Pete Nau (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and junior Karl Wilbur (Edina, Minn.) won at #1, 8-5, while first-year twins Ted and Tom Nagel (Oglesby, Ill.) won easily at #2, 8-1. Junior Brandon Hall (Dubuque, Iowa) and sophomore Peder Thoen (Kolsas, Norway) finished the sweep of doubles by winning 8-5 at #3.

After starting the match off on the right foot by winning all of the doubles, the Oles went to work on the singles court. #1 singles Pete Nau lost a close match in three sets losing 6-3, 1-6, 3-6 while #2 Karl Wilbur won easily 6-0, 6-3. #3 Peder Thoen also had no trouble winning 6-, 6-1. Brandon Hall won a tight match winning 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 at #4. #5 Ted Nagel also won a close match winning 6-4, 6-7, 7-6, while his brother Tom won 6-4, 6-4 at #6.

At the end of the day the Oles beat the Johnnies 6-1. With the win the Oles are 2-0 in conference as well as overall and have an upcoming match versus Luther College at 6:00 p.m. at Rochester on March 3.
