Mbele writes about Kwanzaa in 'Star Tribune'
December 28, 2009
Associate Professor of English Joseph Mbele recently wrote a piece for the Star Tribune about the meaning of the African American Kwanzaa holiday.
"Several years ago, some people in Northfield asked me to lead a Kwanzaa celebration," he begins. "I accepted, but I was scared, because I did not know enough about Kwanzaa to conduct the ceremony. Like many Americans, they believed that Kwanzaa was an African holiday, and that since I am from Tanzania, I must know all about it."
