Keith Hobson, bird conservation and management researcher with Environment Canada, will present two talks at St. Olaf that tie in with the college's current academic theme of "Migration": "From Birds to Butterflies: Some Applications of Stable Isotopes to Ecological Studies" March 22, and "Tracing Migration and Movements of Animals Using Stable Isotopes" March 23. Both talks are free and open to the public.

Hobson, a faculty member at the University of Saskatchewan, received the 2007 Elliott Coues Award from the American Ornithologists' Union "for outstanding and innovative contributions to ornithological research." He also is former editor of Waterbirds: The International Journal of Waterbird Biology.

Hobson's visit coincides with the arrival of St. Olaf's new isotope ratio mass spectrometer that launches stable isotope research at the college.
