Information for Interested Students

We participate in the St. Olaf College Collaborative Undergraduate Research Program (CURI) where more than 75 undergraduate students participate in research projects undertaken by various faculty in the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division as well as in the Social Sciences. Up to six students have participated in our research group at one time, but the number depends on the year and the projects currently ongoing. Our general practice is to hire students early in their undergraduate career so they can continue with us until graduation. However, we also have a tradition of hiring students from other institutions for a single summer when the opportunity arises.

Research opportunities include software development for radar data acquisition (Visual Basic & Visual C++) and processing (Matlab & GMT), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and satellite image processing/interpretation (ArcGIS & ENVI), GPS studies, radar instrumentation development, and the possibility of field work when funding permits. The application process begins in January through CURI, but contact Dr. Robert Jacobel at any time if you are interested.
