Light Lab Project
In this project, students select a passage of music, bring in appropriate objects to place on the Light Lab "stage". They choose color, lighting angles and create a sequence of cues with the control system. The goals of the project: Learn to work with the control system, interact with color and color choice, make angle choices that are interesting and appropriate and consider where to place cues and assign timing that works for the performance.

Lighting Project
For the Lighting Project, students choose a 4 to 5 minute performance and create the lighting for that performance. A repertory light plot is installed in studio theatre space that includes multiple instruments from most standard angles. A cyc or black drapery can be chosen for the background to the performance. Standard cyc lights are installed to illuminate the background. Several lights on moveable booms are available for specials. Students choose color, set up the control system, create cues and rehearse the performance with their performer(s). The performance is presented in class and paperwork, cue description and rationale are submitted with the project.

Sound Project
Students choose a dramatic reading and find a performer to deliver the reading as a performance project. For this project, the student creates a full sound environment to support and extend the reading in performance. The studio theatre space is outfitted with a sound system allowing playback from a digital audio workstation, CD, and microphones as needed. The system includes FX processing and four discrete playback channels. Four speakers can be positioned in the space as desired and a subwoofer channel is available as well. Creation of cues is done in the sound lab using digital and analog worstations, live recording and processing. Students rehearse and perform the final project in the studio theatre and include paperwork, cue description and rationale with the project.
