Hey, the main goals are twofold -- have a little fun and learn a little stuff. And I'm dead serious about this!! If we don't accomplish both of these I won't be satisfied with the term and I imagine you won't be either. But, to be completely honest, this is not as easy in 244 as in other courses. To accomplish these goals we'll both have to put in quality time and put up with some intellectual frustration.
Let me help!
Use the hotline--507-301-8475; it's there to use and to let me help you. Too, use office hours and any other time you find me. I'll let you know if I can't meet with you for some reason, but in general, if you find me anywhere (intermission at the opera for example!) 244 questions are a completely appropriate place to go. I will love it! And do NOT do your own work! Work with a smallish group (2-4 total) in scheduled 244 group session sessions. Note --- In Class Exams are an exception to this real group effort suggestion!!!
I can't sugar coat the fact that some of this material will seem alien at first and just plain hard. But real learning, demands real effort; like lifting, no pain=no gain. But with real gain, there will be real accomplishment and real satisfaction. May the Force be With You!!
All of that said, I plan for us to get through a solid proof of The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, Section 34 in Chapter 6. We'll also want to become LaTeX proficient within the first several weeks of the course.
We have our work cut out for us, but I'm looking forward to the adventure; it should be fun.
