In the first game of the new year, St. Olaf hosted the College of St. Catherine on January 3. Despite an Ole comeback near the end of the game, hot shooting and a streak of 16 points helped St. Catherine win the contest, 69-49.

St. Catherine came out strong, grabbing a 6-0 lead, and led by as much as 17 points in the first half. However, a three pointer by Holly Grimsrud (FY, Zumbrota, Minn.) sparked an Ole run with two minutes left in the first half, narrowing the Wildcats lead to nine points at the break.

In the second half, St. Catherine again took a commanding lead, but a three-point play by Christine Schwictenberg (So., Hopkins, Minn.) put the Oles within six points with three minutes left to play. St. Catherine responded by going on a 16-2 run in the final minutes of the contest.

Sarah McBroom (Sr., Mora, Minn.) led the Oles in scoring with nine points, while Schwictenberg and Grimsrud each scored eight, both going 50 percent from behind the arc. Jill Johnson (Sr., Butterfield, Minn.) secured 12 boards and dished out four assists. The Oles and St. Catherine both shot approximately 30 percent from the field, but St. Olaf was outrebounded 42-58.

The Oles host Saint Benedict's on Monday, January 5th, at Skogland Arena at 7:30 p.m. The Oles are looking for their first victory as they are 0-5 in MIAC conference play and 0-8 overall.
