Award-winning photographer chronicles a family's struggle with HIV/AIDS

By Amy Gage
January 12, 2004

Follow the six-year journey of the Simon family, of rural Lonsdale, as the mother, a daughter and, ultimately, the survivors struggle to cope with HIV/AIDS. On Monday, Jan. 12, at 3:30 p.m., Star Tribune photographer Brian Peterson and nurse, caregiver and family friend Cari Trousdale will chronicle the triumphs and tragedies of Nancy Simon and her daughter, Candace, both of whom lost their lives to the virus. "I don't want my story to die with me. I want the world to know how it ends," Nancy Simon said before her death. Associate Professor of Social Work Mary Carlsen is bringing this touching tribute to St. Olaf College. Her friend Nancy Simon spoke on campus several times. Admission is free and open to the public. The program begins at 3:30 p.m. in the Viking Theater, Buntrock Commons.
