Men's hockey sweeps weekend series with Lawrence
January 12, 2004
The St. Olaf men's hockey team faced Lawrence for second day in a row, for a second non-conference game. The Oles out-shot Lawrence 45-19 in a 6-3 victory. St. Olaf came out flying once again, scoring within the first two minutes.
Andrew Gastineau (So., Rochester, Minn.) scored his first goal as an Ole on a back door pass. Later in the period, Biser would score his third of the weekend on the power play, slamming home a rebound that was kicked out to his stick.
Bickel scored again in the second, using his size to protect and fight off defenders behind the net, he flipped the puck over the goalie. Just seven seconds after Bickel's goal Nick Ames (FY, Richfield, Minn.) scored his first collegiate goal. The Oles lost the face off, but Ames split the defense and picked off a pass and used his speed to drive to the net and score.
The Oles got into some penalty trouble late in the third, allowing the Vikings to mount a comeback, but the physical play and speed of the Oles proved to be to much for the Vikings.
The Oles are on the road this Friday as the travel to Columbia Arena to play the Bethel Royals at 7:00 p.m.
