On Sunday, January 11th the Oles traveled to the St. Thomas Arena to play the second game of their weekend series with the University of St. Thomas. Game two proved to be a physically and mentally challenging game. The Oles fell fell behind by two goals but came back just two goals short of a victory as St. Thomas edged a one goal victory, 3-2.

St. Thomas scored early in the first period. The Oles answered back less than five minutes later, when Claire LeDuc (Fr., St. Paul, Minn.) jumped on the rebound off a shot by Lindsay Weier (So., Menomonie, Wis.) to make the score 1-1 going into the first break.

St. Thomas put up two more goals in the second period. Goalie, Kerry Rollwagen (Jr., Mendota Heights, Minn.), had 14 saves for St. Olaf. St. Thomas played tough defense and only let St. Olaf have two shots on goal. St. Thomas scored twice, to increase their lead to 3-1 at the end of the second period.

The St. Olaf worked hard in the third period. Maria Richardson (Fr., New Brighton, Minn.) brought the Oles to within one of St. Thomas with a pass from Kelsey Skogland (Fr., Shakopee, Minn.) as she fired a shot in the net. Unfortunately, a St. Olaf penalty late in the game did not allow St. Olaf to pull their goalie to try to tie up the game. St. Thomas held on for the 3-2 victory.

The Oles are now 4-2 in the MIAC and 6-4-2 over all. St. Olaf will host Augsburg College on Friday, January 16th at the Northfield Ice Arena, with game time at 8:00 p.m.
