St. Olaf suffered a tough conference loss to Macalester on Wednesday, January 14th. The game was very close throughout, but the Scots were able to pull away late in the game, with a 73-54 victory.

The first half was exciting as both teams played well, contributing to five lead changes. The Oles played well on both ends of the floor, shooting 60% from behind the arc, while holding Macalester to just 25 %. The Scots built an eight point lead at the 5:04 mark, but the Oles chipped it down to three by halftime.

The second half began as both teams traded baskets and the Oles took the lead early in the half. Constant pressure by the Scots eventually wore the Oles down, and Macalester clinched the victory.

Dane Huber (So. Northfield, Minn.) led the way for the Oles, scoring 12 points on 6-9 shooting. Jon Butala (FY West St. Paul, Minn.) and Andy Grimsrud (Jr. Zumbrota, Minn.) scored ten points apiece. Pat Fraser (Jr. Bloomington, Minn.) dished out six assists.

The loss drops the Oles to 2-6 in the MIAC and 5-8 overall. St. Olaf returns to action Saturday, January 17th, when they host St. Thomas in a 3:00 p.m. afternoon game at Skoglund Arena.
