Ole men's basketball fall to St. Thomas

The St. Olaf Mens Basketball team let another close game slip by on Saturday, January 17th, falling to St. Thomas 70-59. Both teams came into the game at 2-5 in MIAC play.

As the first half started, it appeared that both teams were going to have big offensive games. After trading baskets with the Oles for several minutes, St. Thomas was able to pull away to a 14 point lead with 4:49 left in the half. After a timeout, St. Olaf began a rally that ended in the Oles down by only six points at halftime.

The second half began where the first left off, the Oles continued to chip away on the Tommies lead. With 9:09 left in the game, St. Olaf took its first lead of the half, that only lasted a minute, as St. Thomas began to pull away for good.

St. Olaf was led by Matt Schlenker (Sr. Rochester, Minn.) and Nate Lund (Sr. Mankato, Minn.) who both scored 12 points. Jon Butala (FY West St. Paul, Minn.) had 11 points.

The loss puts the Oles at 5-8 overall and 2-6 in the MIAC. The next game for the men Monday, January 19th when they travel to Hamline for a 7:00 p.m. game.
