Women's basketball can't keep up with Concordia
January 22, 2004
The St. Olaf women's basketball team struggled to overcome Concordia College, their strong defense, and exceptional rebounding in a 49-63 loss at home on Wednesday, January 21.
The Oles played with the Cobbers for most of the first half and the two teams were tied with 4:19 to play in the half. The Cobbers went on a 10-2 to finish out the half, leading the Oles 31-23.
In the beginning of the second half, the Oles cut the lead to four, but could not keep up with Concordia. The Cobbers outrebounded the Oles 26-13 in the second half and had a balanced scoring attack, proving too much for the Oles to handle.
Holly Grimsrud (FY, Zumbrota, Minn.) led the Oles with 13 points. Jill Johnson (Sr., Butterfield, Minn.) led the Oles in rebounding with ten and also contributed 11 points, while Sarah McBroom (Sr., Mora, Minn.) scored ten points.
The Oles host Saint Marys on Saturday, January 24 in a double header with the mens team. The women play at 1:00 p.m., followed by the men's team at 3:00 p.m.
