The St. Olaf womens hockey team traveled to Fort Myers, Florida to play a non-conference game against Connecticut College. The Oles skated to a 1-0 victory on Friday, January 2, 2004 at Teco Arena. The Oles goaltender, Andrea Smith (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) had 20 saves and came away with a shutout.

The first and second period remained scoreless though both teams fought hard. The Oles had a total of 15 shots on goal going into the third period but the score was still tied at 0-0.

Kayla Wente (Jr., Waterloo, Iowa) scored the only goal of the game late in the third period on an assist from Sarah Ray (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.). The last minute of the game was exciting as the Camels tried valiantly to tie the game. Smith stayed calm and made an amazing save at the buzzer to protect the St. Olaf 1-0 lead and ensure the victory. Both teams meet again in non-conference play on Saturday, January 3 at 1:00 p.m.
