Gustavus slides past Ole women's hockey

The Oles traveled to Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. on Saturday, January 24 to play the second game in their two games series against Gustavus. Battling back from a 3-0 loss the night before, St. Olaf was determined to come out and play hard. However, a tough Gustauvs team controlled the game as the Oles fell 6-2.

The first period was scoreless. Less than one minute into the second period, the Gusties snuck one in the Oles net. Gustavus dominated the second period and scored three more goals. The Oles found themselves on a power play late in the second period. Gustavus power play had never been scored on until Sarah Ray (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) fired a shot from the blue line to score the Oles first goal. Both teams went into the final break with St. Olaf trailing, 4-1.

In the last twenty minutes of play, Gustavus scored two more goals, to notch the score at 6-1. St. Olaf answered with the last goal of the game, off the stick Brit Schultheis (Jr., Shoreview, Minn.). The play was assisted by Maria Richardson (FY., New Brighton, Minn) and Kelsey Skogland (FY., Shakopee, Minn.) as the Oles fell 6-2.

St. Olaf is now 6-4-0 in the MIAC and 8-6-2 overall. The Oles play again on Friday, February 6 when they host Bethel College at the Northfield Ice Arena at 5:00 p.m.
