Concordia slips past men's basketball at home

The Oles experienced a tough home loss to Concordia College on January 21, 2004. After leading by ten at halftime, the Oles saw their lead fade away, and were unable to come back with a win, as Concordia sliped past the Oles, 68-64.

In the first half, the Oles were dominating in every way. They shot 50% from the floor and held the Cobbers to only 33%. Every time the ball hit the floor, an Ole seemed to come away with it. This intensity led to a 32-22 St. Olaf lead at halftime.

In the second half, Concordia picked up its defensive pressure and was able to force a few Oles turnovers, and slowly cut down the St. Olaf lead. The Oles tried everything they could, but the Cobbers were unstoppable on offense, shooting a red hot 65% from the floor and scoring 46 points in the half to take a 68-64 win back to Moorhead.

The Oles had three players in double figures. Nate Lund (Sr. Mankato, Minn.) led the way with 17 points and six rebounds. Ted Gonsior (Jr. Centerville, Minn.) scored 14 points, while going six-for-six from the free-throw line. Jon Butala (FY West St. Paul, Minn.) had 11 points as well.

The loss drops St. Olaf to 3-8 in the MIAC and 6-10 overall. The next game for the Oles is Saturday, January 24th, when St. Marys comes to Northfield for an afternoon game. Tip off is set for 3:00 pm.
