Ole men four points shy of victory at home
January 26, 2004
The St. Olaf Mens team suffered another tough loss at home. After leading Saint Marys for most of the game, the Oles saw their lead slip away at the very end of the game and lost 61-58.
In the first half, both teams played excellent defense and neither team could get much of a lead. Finally at the end of the half, the Oles made a run that put them up by five points going to the locker room.
The second half was a different story, St. Olaf appeared to be jumping ahead of St. Marys, with a 6-0 run with 5:00 remaining. The Cardinals made a desperate comeback, however, and walked away with a win.
Leading the way for St. Olaf was Matt Schlenker (Sr. Rochester, Minn.) with 16 points and six rebounds. Dane Huber (So. Northfield, Minn.) added 11 points and Ted Gonsior (Jr. Centerville, Minn.) dished out nine assists.
The loss puts the Oles at 3-9 in the MIAC and 6-11 overall. The next game for the men is Wednesday, January 28, when they travel to St. Peter, Minn. for a game against Gustavus at 7:30 p.m.
