St. Olaf men fall to Gustavus, 61-50

The St. Olaf mens team battled in a hard fought game against Gustavus Adolphus. Despite missing several players, the Oles led the game for the first ten minutes, but were unable to regain it after that and fell 61-50.

In the first half, the Oles played great defense. They were all over the floor diving on loose balls and held the Gusties to only 32% shooting. St. Olaf looked as though it might pull away, but shots did not fall for either team, and Gustavus had a seven point lead at the break, coming off a late first half run.

In the second half, Gustavus jumped out to an 18 point lead, as the Oles slowly chipped away, getting it to within ten points with 3:00 to go. The Gusties made their free-throws and were able to pull away with the win.

Leading the way for St. Olaf was Jon Bain (FY, Austin, Minn.) who came off the bench to net 12 points. Ted Gonsior (Jr. Centerville, Minn.) had 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.

The loss drops the Oles to 3-10 in the MIAC and 6-12 overall. The next game for the Oles is Saturday January 31st, when they travel across town to take on Carleton at 3:00 p.m.
