The St. Olaf Men?s Basketball team rebounded from a tough loss Saturday with a victory over Martin Luther College Monday, December 1 at Skoglund Arena. After leading by seven at half time, the Oles were able stretch their lead and come away with a win, 76-59.

Both teams saw its share of poor shots, but the Oles were able to capitalize on a height advantage and pound the glass, out rebounding the Knights 47-29 overall and 23-8 on the offensive boards. St. Olaf used many of these second chance opportunities to get to the free throw line where they were 28-34.

The game was surprisingly close at half time, 32-25, but strong pressure on the ball, rebounding, and free throw shooting in the second half kept the Knights from making any sort of comeback as St. Olaf pulled away.

First Year Jon Butala (West St. Paul, Minn.) had an impressive game, netting 12 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Also scoring for the Oles was guard Pat Fraser (Jr. Bloomington, MN) with 12 points, who hit several free throws and came away with 5 steals. The Oles had senior Matt Schlenker (Rochester, Minn.) back in the lineup as he finished the game with 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Oles return to action on Saturday, December 6 when they take their 2-1 record on the road for a game against Saint Mary?s, looking for their first conference road win.
