Religion professor helps assemble peaceful anti-war group every Saturday
December 24, 2003
Only days after Sept. 11, 2001, anti-war activists began to peacefully assemble every Saturday at noon on Bridge Square in downtown Northfield. They continue the weekly vigil to this day -- whatever the weather. "We represent the new face of the peace movement," said St. Olaf Assistant Professor of Religion Phil Stoltzfus, an organizer of the group, in a recent article in the Star Tribune. People for Peace and Goodwill, an outgrowth of the vigil, is unique to the Northfield area, Stoltzfus says. He also has brought St. Olaf students to PPG meetings to observe.
