Men's basketball falls to Carleton

The men's basketball team experienced a tough home loss on Wednesday, December 10, 2003. The Oles played a close game with cross town rival Carleton, but fell to the Knights 62-50 at Skoglund Arena.

The first half of the game was very competitive, as neither team was able to pull ahead by more than six points. As the half wound down, a few turnovers by the Oles led to easy lay-ups for the Knights and they took a four point lead into the locker room.

The second half started where the first had left off. Both teams traded baskets until Carleton went on an 8-0 run to claim a ten point lead with 15:40 left in the game. The Oles hit several shots down the stretch, but each time the Knights were able to answer with a basket of their own.

Leading the way for the Oles was Andy Grimsrud (Jr. Zumbrota, Minn.) with twelve points. Also reaching double figures were Matt Schlenker (Sr. Rochester, Minn.), with eleven, and Jon Butala (FY West St. Paul, Minn.) with ten. Dane Huber (So. Northfield, Minn.) was strong on the boards, grabbing nine rebounds.

The loss drops the Oles to 1-3 in the MIAC and 3-3 overall. The Oles have a ten day break for finals, but return to action Friday, December 19, when they travel to St. Bonifacius to play Crown College in a non-conference game.
