Women's hockey undefeated in MIAC conference play

The St. Olaf women's hockey team traveled to St. Cloud on Sunday, December 7th for the second game of a weekend series against the College of St. Benedict. The women skated to a 1-0 victory to sweep the weekend series and remain a perfect 4-0 in MIAC conference play, in a three-way tie for first place.

In the first period, both teams were shut out. St. Olaf created a lot of good opportunities and played great defense. Goalie Kerry Rollwagen (Jr., Mendota Heights, Minn.) had 7 saves while the Oles put up 14 shots against St. Benedict.

Kayla Wente (Jr., Waterloo, Iowa) scored the only goal of the game and her first goal for the season in the second period. Wentes goal was assisted by Lindsay Weier (So., Menomonie, Wis.) and Brit Schultheis (Jr., Shoreview, Minn.).

With less than two minutes left in the third period, the Oles were protecting their 1-0 lead. St. Benedict pulled their goalie and made a great effort to tie the game, but the Oles played smart and with the help of great defense, came away with the 1-0 win.

The Oles will be traveling to Fort Myers, Florida over the winter break. They will play two games, against Connecticut College on January 2 and 3, 2004. The Oles return to MIAC action at home against the University of St. Thomas at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10th.
