Wisconsin Lutheran pulls away from Oles with late game free-throws
December 31, 2003
The St. Olaf Mens Basketball team traveled to Thousand Oaks, California to play in the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Holiday Tournament. On Tuesday, December 30th, the Oles returned to play, taking on Wisconsin Lutheran in the consolation game. The Oles nearly pulled off remarkable comeback, but lost 75-67.
The first half resembled the Cal Lutheran game from the previous day, as the Oles found themselves behind by twenty points, as the half came to a close. In the second half it appeared Wisconsin Lutheran was going to pull away for good, but the Oles made an exciting run late in the game cutting the lead from 21 points to just eight points. Late game free throws helped Wisconsin Lutheran pull out the victory.
Leading the way for the Oles for the second straight game was Nate Lund (Sr. Mankato, Minn.) who recorded another double-double by netting 18 points and grabbing ten rebounds. Andy Grimsrud (Jr. Zumbrota, Minn.) had a strong game, scoring 16 points.
St. Olaf placed fourth of four teams in the tournament, and Nate Lund was named to the All-Tournament Team. The Oles return to Minnesota with a 4-5 overall record. Their next game is January 5th, 2004 at Saint Johns in Collegeville, Minnesota at 7:00 pm.
