Professor publishes three works on sociology of death, dying
December 10, 2003
Professor of Sociology Michael R. Leming, an expert on death, dying and bereavement, had three books published in fall 2003.
Two of his articles -- "Religion and the Mediation of Death Fear" and "The History of the Hospice Approach" -- appeared in Handbook of Death and Dying, a two-volume set for which Leming also served as a co-author. In addition, along with George E. Dickinson he co-authored the 2004-2005 Annual Editions: Dying, Death, and Bereavement.
The author of numerous scholarly works, Leming has taught at St. Olaf College since September 1975. He recently gave a lecture to the sociological theory class at Maha Chulalongicorn University in Chinag Mai Thailand on the four sociological theoretical traditions as a key to understanding the Buddhist Scriptures. All of the students at the university are Buddhist Monks. The lecture was given in Thai and English.
