The St. Olaf College Department of Music will share its talents and gifts with the public as it celebrates its centenary this year. On Thursday, Sept. 18, at 11:30 a.m., the Community Time Centennial Concert Series will debut in Urness Recital Hall, Christiansen Hall of Music. This all-Grieg recital will feature the beautiful melodies of Norway's most important composer, including "Grieg Songs" by St. Olaf Department of Music chair and tenor Dan Dressen and pianist Sonja Thompson, an assistant professor at Augsburg College; and "Grieg Sonata for Cello and Piano" by cellist and Associate Professor of Music David Carter, along with pianist and Assistant Professor of Music Kent McWilliams. Other themes in the monthly series will include five centuries of music, Valentine's Day, globalization and music of the United States. The series is held during the campus's "Community Time," a deliberate break during the workday every Thursday for people to get to know each other and appreciate the talents and diversity on campus.
