The St. Olaf Men's golf team traveled to Sauk Center, Minnesota this weekend for the Saint John's Fall Invitatinoal held at Greystone Golf Course. With mild winds and a cool temperature, the beautiful fall day provided good golf conditions.

The Oles came out and fired an impressive team score of 318, good enough to finish the first day of the tournament in fifth place, out of 16 teams. The team was led by the solid play of Brian DeLaitsch (FY, Owatonna, Minn.) who fired a four over par 76. Rounding out the Ole scoring was Pat Gilles (Jr., Waunakee, Wis.) with a 77, Bryan Hapka (Jr., Mukwonago, Wis.) with an 82 and Brandt Uthus (Sr., Minot, ND) with an 83.

The second day found the Oles struggling a bit with the short game. Once again, DeLaitsch was on fire, as he cruised through the front nine in one over par 37, and continued to make pars through the 16th hole. On the par-3 145 yard 17th hole, DeLaitsch hit a perfect 8 iron shot right into the cup for his first ever Hole-In-One. He followed that eagle at the 17th, with a birdie on the 18th hole and a final round of one over par, 73. He finished fifth out of 80 golfers.

Other scorers for the Oles the second day were Gilles with an 81, Hapka with an 83 and Uthus with an 87. The Ole men shot a 324 to finish seventh out of the sixteen team field, and fourth out of the nine MIAC teams participating.

The Oles will be back at work this week as they prepare for the Carleton Invitational to be held at the Northfield Golf Club on September 20 and 21 at 1:00 p.m.
