The Ole harriers returned to their home course for the first time since competing at the nationals meet last November and placed fourth out of a field of 14 teams. They faced some tough competition, including Mankato State (ranked 19th nationally in Division II), as well as top MIAC teams St. Thomas, Carleton, and Saint John?s. Mankato State outpaced the competition to finish 1st with 32 points, while St. Thomas and Carleton finished close behind with 53 and 63 points respectively. The Ole men had 109 points for a fourth place finish.

The Ole men?s cross-country team has big shoes to fill this year, coming off a year in which they made it to nationals for the first time in over 20 years. After losing four of their top seven runners from last year, there was a mix of old and new faces contributing for the Oles. Malcolm Richards (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) was the top Ole runner, coming across the line in ninth place with a time of 26:26, with Kelly Fulton (Jr., Billings, Mont.) following closely behind in a time of 26:35, good for 12th place. Sam Hauck (So., Shoreview, Minn.) ran a personal best 27:08 to finish 18th , while Anthony Hoff (FY., Stillwater, Minn.), and Nic Reichenbach (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) placed 34th and 36th to close out the top five scoring spots for St. Olaf. John Lamppa (FY., Northfield, Minn.) also stepped up to finish seventh for the team and 41st overall in front of the hometown crowd.

The JV runners will return to action this Friday, Sep. 26 at 4:30 in the JV Classic at Carleton College. The full squad will compete next in Colfax, Wis. for the Midwest Long & Short Challenge on October 3.
