After two weekends on the road, the St. Olaf Women?s soccer team welcomed the chance to play their first conference game of the season at home. On Saturday, September 20th, the Oles shutout Saint Mary?s 5-0 to start off their conference season undefeated.

The Ole women started the game strong, scoring three straight goals in the first half. The first goal came from center midfielder Liz Tanner (FY, Columbia, Mo.) who placed a perfect shot into the upper 90 well out of the reach of the Cardinal?s keeper. The shot came from at least 5 yards outside the 18 on the left flank but was hit with such accuracy that it was unstoppable. The second goal came off the boot of Ashley Mark (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn.). Her shot came after a shot by Kelsey Watt (FY, Apple Valley, Minn.) was deflected, recovered by Kristi Parks (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) and crossed across the mouth of the goal. Mark was in perfect position to slot the ball well out of reach of the Cardinal keeper. The last goal of the half was once again initiated by a shot from Watt. This time Kaia Knutson (So., Fargo, ND) followed and scored the ball the keeper bobbled.

The Oles found the back of the Cardinals? net 2 more times in the second half. The fourth point was another unassisted goal from Tanner. This time the shot wasn?t quite as deep, but still outside the 18 and didn?t give the Cardinal keeper a chance. Amy Odland (FY, Edina, Minn.) scored the final goal of the game for the Oles with a hard shot from the left side of the goal box. The Oles dominated the majority of the game out shooting Saint Mary?s 29-4 and the Oles also took 11 corner kicks to the Cardinals one.

This makes St. Olaf perfect so far in conference play at 1-0 and improves their overall record to 3-4-0. The Oles take on Gustavus at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24th at home for their second conference game of the season.
