Men's soccer undefeated in MIAC with win over Saint Mary's

The men's soccer team entered their game with Saint Mary?s on Sunday, with a perfect record in the MIAC. The Oles were dominant from the start, dictating the pace and type of game that was to be played. Saint Mary?s put up some scoring opportunities early, as the Oles adjusted to the rarely seen three-forward attack they were facing. St. Olaf played tough and shutout Saint Mary's 2-0.

The light rain favored the Ole forwards who were able to keep the Cardinal defenders off balance. St. Olaf forward Faiz Abdirahman (So., Rochester, Minn.) scored in the 27th minute, chipping the goalkeeper after midfielder Trevor Davies (Jr., Waukesha, Wis.) split the St. Mary?s defenders with a square pass. Abdirahman struck again in the 67th minute when midfielder Abu Farah (FY, Rochester, Minn.) played a perfect through pass leaving Abdirahman alone to score the second goal of the game.

With a two-goal advantage, the Oles were able to possess and play solid defense for the final twenty minutes. Aided by a solid defensive performance, goalkeeper Kyle Trimble (Jr., Whitefish Bay, Wis.) recorded his second consecutive shutout in MIAC play, earning him MIAC Player of the Week honors.

The Oles return to action on Saturday, September 27th when they host St. Thomas during homecoming weekend at 11:00 a.m. as the Oles will attempt to preserve their perfect MIAC record.
