St. Olaf defeated St. Mary's University in a women's tennis match on Thursday, April 3rd in Winona. It was a 5-4 victory that was extremely close. The Oles were playing without the services of their number one singles player, Janelle Sagness.

The match started out with doubles with the Oles picking up two victories. The teams of Beth Erie/Kristen Buchta at number one doubles and Jennifer Ison and Emily Eggert at number two doubles both were victorious. The third doubles team of Yvonne Yang and Michelle Wiersma lost a close 9-7 match to their opponents. In singles most of the matches were closely contested. Beth Erie won handily at number one singles. Kristen Buchta picked up a victory at number three singles. Jamie Brau won her match at number four singles. The rest of the singles matches were very competitive, but the women from St. Mary's prevailed in those matches.

Overall it was a great match. The match put the Oles at 6-4 over-all and 4-2 in the MIAC conference. The women's team plays next against Macalester at home on Saturday, April 12.
