'Soul of a Citizen' author to examine civic (dis)engagement
April 16, 2003
What gets people, especially students, involved in our communities? What stops us from becoming involved? How can we avoid burnout and exhaustion in order to stay committed for the long haul? Author and activist Paul Rogat Loeb will speak Wednesday, April 16, at St. Olaf College -- at 10:10 a.m. at Boe Memorial Chapel and at 7 p.m. in the Pause in Buntrock Commons. His visit to campus is sponsored by the Office for Servant Leadership and the Center for Experiential Learning.
Author of Soul of a Citizen: Living with Conviction in a Cynical Time, Loeb has been hailed by Ralph Nader as "a powerful prescription to cure the insidious disease of cynicism" and by Alice Walker as someone who "demonstrates that courage can be another name for love." His appearances are free and open to the public. Classical 89.3 will broadcast Loeb's chapel talk at 9 p.m. Wednesday as part of the program "Evening Song."
