The St. Olaf Women's Track and Field team began the outdoor season this past weekend at the Wartburg College Select Meet. Competing against teams that had already begun their outdoor season, the Oles entered the meet seeking for an opportunity to prove the results of their practice. However, the Oles did more than just practice--they competed very well against many national caliber teams.

Lead by senior Megan Daymont (Northfield, MN), the Oles set the pace on the track for the middle distance and long distance events. Daymont won the 1,500 meter race and provisionally qualified for outdoor nationals. Teammates Kari Koos (FY, Leavenworth, WA) and Marit Grorud (Jr, Fremont, NE) finished the 800 meter race in 6th and 7th place, respectively. While First Year runner, Lindsay Boetcher (Eau Claire, WI) won the 5,000 meter race. Kezia Manlove (FY, Rapid City, SD) finished 3rd in the steeplechase, while setting a new school record in the event. In the sprints, Becky Peterson (Jr, Plymouth, MN) took 2nd place in the 100-meter hurdles. With the pace set by these runners, the other Oles competed hard and many transitioned between the indoor and outdoor season with times that were better than the indoor season.

The field events were lead by junior Jennifer Levenhagen (Appleton, WI) who finished 6th in javelin and 2nd in discus. Levenhagen's teammate Emily Uzzell (Sr, Norfolk, NE) took 9th place in shot put. Meanwhile, Marla Nelson (FY, Mendota Heights, MN) took 6th place in the pole vault.

The Oles host the Manitou Classic this Friday, April 19th beginning at 1:30 pm. Watch for all the Oles to only improve as they are able to continue maximizing their practice times.
