The St. Olaf baseball team had two stellar pitching performances from Charlie Ruud (Jr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) and Matt Green (So., Minneapolis, Minn./South) in a two-game sweep of Augsburg Sunday afternoon at home.

The Oles held on 4-1 in the first game and exploded for a 27-2 win in game two.

Ruud allowed just four hits in the complete game win in the opener.

Green worked five solid innings in game two to earn the win. Dan Hansen (So., Eden Valley, Minn.) and Dan O'Malley (FY, St. Paul, Minn.) each worked a scoreless inning in relief.

The St. Olaf offense used a nine-run first and 12-run third inning in the game two victory.

Mike Ludwig (Sr., Blaine, Minn.), Jeff Hudson (FY, Northfield, Minn.), Brad Baglien (Jr., Arden Hills, Minn.) and Tony De La Hunt (So., Apple Valley, Minn.) each had a home run in the sweep.

With the wins, the Oles moved into a second place tie with Concordia-Moorhead at 12-4 in MIAC play. The Oles split with the Cobbers in early April. First place St. Thomas (14-4) kept pace, sweeping Gustavus Sunday afternoon to hold on to a two-game advantage.

The top four teams advance to the MIAC playoffs, which begin a week from Friday in Dundas and Northfield.

St. Olaf hosts Saint John's University on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. and Carleton Saturday at 1 p.m. in the final two series of the regular season. The Johnnies are two games behind the Oles at 10-6.
