Women's Track and Field Compete at Macalester Invitational
April 29, 2003
The St. Olaf Women's Track and Field team traveled to the Macalester Invitational this past Saturday. Competing in 'typical' summer weather, the Oles used it to their advantage as many broke their own personal records. Teammates Kezia Manlove (FY, Rapid City, SD) and Emily Uzzell (Sr., Norfolk, NE) led the Oles as they each broke school records. Manlove finished first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and Uzzell finished 9th in the hammer throw.
On the track, the Oles dominated the long distance events. The Oles began the meet with Kris Hup (Sr., Waseca, MN), Meredith Fahrner (So., Urbana, IL), April Graves (So., Minnetonka, MN), and Britt Carlson (Jr., Stillwater, MN) finishing 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th, respectively, in the 10,000-meter race. Lindsay Boetcher (FY, Eau Claire, WI) took first place in the 5,000-meter race, while Megan Daymont (Sr., Northfield, MN) finished first in the 1,500-meter race. In the 800-meter race, Larissa Nordstrom (FY, Des Moines, IA) and Jenna Barke (FY, Roseville, MN) finished in 6th and 8th place.
While the Oles let their presence be known on the track, the field events were lead by Uzzell and Jennifer Levenhagen (Jr., Appleton, WI). Levenhagen finished 4th in discus and 5th in javelin. Teammates Elizabeth Ghandour (FY, Madelia, MN) and Marla Nelson (FY, Mendota Heights, MN) took 5th and 8th in the pole vault. The Oles will take a few days off and then travel to St. Thomas' Tommie Twilight on Wednesday, April 30th. Watch for even more record breaking performances as the Oles training has prepared them for this time of the year.
