A visiting Japanese ensemble shares its music and rituals with the community
December 9, 2002
Taiko, traditional Japanese ensemble drumming, was part of daily life and rituals in the earliest Japanese communities. It has become a dynamic performance art form. Mu Daiko, a taiko group from Theater Mu in Minneapolis, will give a free demonstration and instruction in Japanese taiko drumming in Urness Recital Hall at 9 a.m. and a performance in The Pause in Buntrock Commons at 7 p.m. Tickets ($5) for the performance are available at the door. Mu Daiko appears in several Southern Theater productions and in a family concert with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra in early December.
