The St. Olaf Women's Basketball Team lost 57-41 to the Norse of Luther College on Tuesday, November 26. The Ole defense contained Luther's scoring, holding the Norse to 16% for the three point line, but the Ole offense never got going. Sara Erickson (Sr, Cambridge, Minn.) led the Oles with 16 points, and Jill Johnson (Jr, Butterfield, Minn.) added ten, but no other player were close to scoring in the double digits.

The Oles shot 24% percent from field, and were only able to muster 41 points for the game. Head Coach Pat Buresh explained, "We needed to attack more; our offense never found any rhythm."

The Norse also did damage from the free throw line. With nine minutes left in the first half, they were in the bonus and were 10 for 13 from the line. They finished 17 of 26 from the line for the contest, while the Oles were seven of 11. Luther lead 33-18 at the half.

After trailing by as much as 21 points in the second, St. Olaf picked up their defensive intensity, put on a full court trap and were able to pull within ten points with three minutes remaining in the contest. The Norse again found themselves on the free throw line and were able to put the game away.

Johnson finished the game with nine rebounds and Mayme Cupkie (Sr, Owatonna, Minn.) secured eight. Erickson had three steals for the Oles, and Kelly Sweeney (Jr, Oakdale, Minn.) had four assists. Kelly Have and Heidi Montgomery each scored fifteen for the Norse.

The Oles next play the Cobbers of Concordia College in their first conference match-up of the season. It is St. Olaf's first home game and will be played at the Skoglund Athletic Center in Northfield, MN at 1:00 on Saturday, November 30. The Men's game follows.
