Women's Basketball battles undefeated Gustavus

The St. Olaf Women?s Basketball team hosted undefeated Gustavus Adolphus College on Monday, Nov. 7. The Gusties experienced backcourt and tough inside game proved to be too much for the home team, with the final score being 73-56.
Both teams came out playing tight defense to start the game. The Gusties limited the Oles to 17 points in the first half, and only scored 26 points themselves.
The Oles were able to put up a better percentage on the offensive end in the second half, improving their field goal percentage to 42.1. However, Gustavus' shooting improved as well, and they connected on 51.6 percent of attempted shots. The Gustavus women went 13 for 17 from the line in the second half, while St. Olaf was 6 of 11 for the entire contest. Improving from previous games the Oles limited their turnovers to 14. Gustavus also had 14 turnovers, and the two teams were virtually tied in the rebound category. The Gusties had the slight edge with 40, while the Oles grabbed 39 rebounds.
Liz Mundahl (Sr, Eagan Minn.) was St. Olaf?s key player for the contest, scoring 19 points, securing seven rebounds, and collecting two steals. Jill Johnson (Jr, Butterfield, Minn.) added ten points and Molly Simon (So, Hudson, Wisc.) scored seven points. Johnson was the top rebounder for the Oles with 11.
The Oles next face Carleton College in MIAC play on Wednesday, Dec. 11 in their last contest before winter break. Game time is 6:00 p.m., and the men?s game immediately follows.
