While the Oles once again improved their offensive effort, they were unable to come up with a win against Carleton Knights, and slipped 78-64.

Carlton came out shooting well, going five for ten from the three point line and shooting 45.5 percent from the field. The Oles themselves connected on 40.6 percent of their shots. Impressive outside shooting from Liz Mundahl (Sr, Eagan Minn.) propelled the Oles on run to get them within range of Carleton in the closing minutes of the first half, but the Knights were able to expand their lead again before the break to fourteen, for a halftime score of 46-32.

St. Olaf?s defense contained Carleton?s offense more in the second half, holding them to 38.1 percent shooting. However, the Knights found themselves on the line and connected on 12 of 14 free throws in the second half alone, and were 23 of 29 for the game. The Oles got themselves to the line 24 times, but only made 14. "Free throws were a big key in this game- we fouled too often and they got to the line too many times," explained head coach Pat Buresh. "But we moved the ball a lot better and were disciplined on offense." St. Olaf was under their season turnover average with 14, and Carleton turned the ball over 13 times.

Mundahl and Kelly Sweeney (Jr, Oakdale, Minn.) both had 12 points for the Oles, and Kristy Larson (So, St. Ansgar, Iowa) added ten for her season high. Mayme Cupkie (Sr, Owatonna, Minn.) and Sweeney both had six rebounds. Sweeney also had five assists, while Molly Simon (So, Hudson, Wisc.) had four.

Carleton player Megan Vig went five for 11 from the field and two for three from the three point line to score 18 points, and Cara Jones had seven rebounds for the Knights.

The Oles have three weeks off before their next game against the College of St. Catherine?s in St. Paul for another conference match-up on Saturday, January 4 at 3:00p.m.
